My Story
Counseling is my 2nd career! As a former 27 year Corporate Recruiter for Fortune 100 companies, I learned the importance of listening to the needs of others. In 2010, my life transitioned due to the economic downturn and I found myself seeking a new career. I enrolled in graduate school at the age of 45 and thus began my journey in becoming a counselor. Graduating in 2014, I learned that I absolutely love working with couples, individuals and families when it comes to finding the meaning of relationships with self and others. This work is my passion and I want to help YOU empower yourself and your relationships!

Carl Thomas
Mental Health Counseling Intern
Carl Thomas is a Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern from Liberty University. Carl has a passion for helping individuals and couples break free from shame, emotional dysregulation, and relational disconnection. His work is rooted in a biopsychosocial and systemic framework, recognizing that our struggles are shaped by brain, body, relationships, family systems, culture, and lived experience.
Carl has a particular interest in the intersection of neuroscience, attachment, and trauma wounds. He is especially drawn to polyvagal-informed and neurohealth approaches that help clients understand how their nervous system impacts anxiety, emotional reactivity, compulsive patterns, and relationship dynamics. His goal is to help clients move from survival mode toward greater regulation, connection, and resilience.
With more than a decade of experience leading recovery and support communities, Carl brings warmth, authenticity, and practical insight into the counseling space. He understands firsthand how shame can keep people stuck and is committed to creating an environment where clients feel safe enough to be honest and empowered enough to grow.
Carl is a certified Neuro Health Coach, and is currently pursuing graduate training in counseling with the goal of working in private practice. He is especially passionate about helping clients integrate psychological insight, nervous system health, and emotional growth in a way that fosters lasting change.
Carl sees clients on a “Pay what you can” fee structure.

Penny Sehas
Associate Marriage and Family Therapist
Penny is an LAMFT who specializes in working with couples, families, and individuals navigating life transitions and challenges. Using a systemic approach, her work considers how people are shaped by the larger systems around them: family, culture, community, and lived experiences. Through this lens, Penny helps clients explore how past traumas influence present-day challenges.
One of Penny’s strengths is supporting clients who struggle with emotional awareness and connection. Together, she and her clients explore internal experiences in a way that fosters emotional clarity and deeper self-understanding.
Penny is committed to inclusive care and works with culturally diverse clients, including members of the LGBTQ+ community. She creates a space where clients feel seen, empowered, and supported in exploring new perspectives and making meaningful change.
Penny earned her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Capella University. Before becoming a therapist, she spent over 20 years as a teacher, working closely with adolescents and their families. This work strengthened her skills in empathy, active listening, flexibility, and creating safe, culturally responsive environments. Her personal experience as a caregiver for her parents further nurtured her capacity for compassion, patience, and advocacy. Penny is training in EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy), and CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)
For Penny, becoming a therapist was a natural evolution of her lifelong commitment to service. She is passionate about helping individuals, couples, and families cultivate growth, healing, and connection—one conversation at a time.
